Sylvia sped up accordingly and beamed at the sight of Camellia, all moonlight and starry eyes.

S: Oh, oh wow, I'm so-

C: There is no time - here are your clothes, change over there.

She handed Sylvia a bundle of taupe fabric and pointed behind her. Nodding breathlessly, Syvlia went to change, leaving Anthony and Camellia alone.

C: Thank you for bringing her.

Anthony agreed, shivering slightly. He wondered what to say.

A: The family are meeting tonight... the son is a soldier... i fear he will not take kindly...

He was rambling.

A: But the father, he hides himself away in his study... an old scientist...

He trailed off, feeling his words starting to lose meaning.

Camellia closed the gap between them, hand on his chest, once again over his heart as if she was trying to protect it.

C: It is no matter. I saw you come from under the ground-

The servant entrance to the basement kitchens.

C: -but no one else has. Try and keep your people there, it is more easily defensible.

He cringed at 'you'. The idea of laying so much as a finger on Camellia to hurt her seemed to hurt him as well.

A: Do you want to lose?

Luminous eyes boring into his own, past his physical appearance and gender and everything superficial, right into his very soul.

C: You are so good, Anthony.

She breathed, her words dancing away on the breeze.

C: So gentle and kind.

Salix didn't understand. None of her people would. Sprite men had never much interested Camellia, so like herself; ethereal, beautiful, flawless. Anthony was a breath of fresh air: earthy and real and imperfect. She could feel her heart drumming and her stomach turning, she could feel herself lifting onto her tiptoes and her lips parting, she could feel the corse fabric of his shirt under her fingers as they curled into a loose fist and pulled him close. He was so tangible, she could feel his breath and smell the scent of human baking on him. He was the most magical thing she had ever seen.

Anthony blinked, wondering what she was doing. If Camellia were human, he'd think she was attracted to him, that she wanted to kiss him. But this woman, this creature, that seemed to be woven from starlight and as wise as the trees that stood around them, she could never choose him. He was rough, he was crooked. It wasn't right.

She nodded, trying to keep her magical allure at bay. This was not to be a tale of a 'belle dame sans merci', wooing some poor man and ensnared his affections only to leave him a ghost. No tricks. She wanted him to see her real self. Her gentle eyes surveyed his face, admiring the slight bump on the bridge of his nose, and the light circles under his eyes; his crooked mouth fascinated her, and the way he looked at her with something other than a sense of self-importance and derision made her wonder why humans were forbidden to her.

C: So sweet, and honest, and true.

Once again the cruel winds of time carried her words away, not allowing them to linger with him.

Anthony took one hand and tucked a stray strand of bright hair behind her pointed ear, marvelling at how delicate she was, how intricate. Even in the dim light, she shone, radiating a soft glow of happiness and beauty. Their situation, so cruel and sudden, did not have a place for Camellia, he thought. She does not belong in a war.

A: You are beautiful.

He was entranced by her, utterly spellbound.

Camellia kept her gaze fused with his, taking in a deep, shuddering breath. Her other hand rested in the crook of his neck, feeling the rough skin from where his razor had missed a spot of stubble.

C: And you.

Her eyes dropped to his lips.

Anthony wondered if he should kiss her, and what would happen if he did. He knew he wanted to. He wanted to so much, it was as though every cell in his body was telling him that this was the correct option, the best way forwards... but would it complicate things? As he was thinking, he let his hand caress her cheek, awe struck by how soft her skin was.

Camellia pressed herself flush against him. Once again she looked into his eyes, then down to his lips, as if indicating what she wanted. Fingers curling against his clothes and skin, she went on her tiptoes to make their faces level. Please let him understand, she begged inwardly, let him kiss me.

C: I don't want us to part.

She whispered.

S: Sorry I took so long, the lacing is rather tri- oh.

Anthony's face was less than a fraction of a centimetre away from Camellia's, having not had time to move any further away.

S: Am I, ahem, interrupting?

He took another step away from Camellia, but it hurt to do so.

Sylvia nodded slowly. Her gaze continued to flicker towards Anthony.

C: You look the part, but your hair needs, um - come here.

She set about plaiting and weaving Sylvia's hair in the sprite style, all the while looking at Anthony, rubbing her lips together.

Anthony was stood very straight, trying very hard to fight the urge to knock Sylvia aside and carry Camellia bridal style away from danger. He managed. Just.

S: My shoes?

C: We all go barefoot except the soldiers...

She trailed off.
