She did not agree. At last she looked up at the man sat across from her, and immediately felt guilty. Arum had been raised on army morals. What could she expect from him? Zinnia supposed she was wrong to unload her life onto him and expect him to understand.

Arum felt guilty for not being able to understand her point of view. He wished he could empathise with her, but he had never been an outcast. He had never been hurt by society, that he knew of. He had never been shunned.

A: A bath might help your leg.

Cadets weren't meant to have baths today. They were supposed to wait for their assigned days.

Fifteen minutes later, after running back and forth with pails of water, hiding behind walls to escape capture, Arum peered around the doorframe and beckoned her silently.

(Nah still the barracks technically)

Arum was strangely twitchy, as if physically reacting to breaking the rules. He kept looking back at Zinnia, looking around, then continuing to walk while muttering. After less than thirty seconds of walking he tutted, wheeled around and lifted her up.

A: You're too slow with that limp.
