He turned and left before she could protest.

5.30am rolled around, and a bell clanged the arrival of morning for the soldiers. Arum walked along the centre of the room, noting which recruits slept through the bell and the following bustle.

Zinnia was asleep, still curled up and looking very troubled.

As the rest of the troops jogged out to regular training, having washed and dressed in no more than five minutes, Arum looked down at Zinnia. The last sleeper. She must be tired to sleep through the commotion. As she was being trained privately by him, she would not be scolded by anyone else. She was his charge and his alone to discipline. He loosened his collar as he realised that he didn't know how to wake her. Touching her may be deemed inappropriate, as she was a woman and he... not. Shouting would be rude, the bell would signal to others that she was still asleep, and he may be tattled on for being lax and lenient with her on her first day. He decided that a gentle, chaste shove on the shoulder would not be seen as inappropriate.

A: Cadet Albar.

He said gruffly.

Zinnia shot up, as though a needle had been poked into her skin.

Z: What! What?

She looked around, eyes wide.

Z: Where am I?

She walked up to it and put her hands in the icy water, recoiling instantly.

Z: Ah!

She muttered something and splashed the freezing water over her face, cringing as she did so.

Z: Agh, it's cold.

Zinnia hissed, but kept going, until she could stand it no longer.

Z: I'm clean enough.

A: Your uniform.
